Privacy policy

This policy explains what Import Cost Desk collects when you use the site, why we collect it, and what we do with it. We wrote it to be read, not to hide things in. If anything here is unclear, email [email protected].

What we collect

• Calculation inputs. What you enter into the calculator: the product you're importing, origin country, shipment customs value, unit count, and freight cost if you provide it.
• Work email — only if you choose to create a free account to unlock rate alerts, bulk SKU mode, saved calculations, and PDF reports.
• Technical and attribution data. Your IP address and advertising click IDs from the URL you arrived on (for example fbclid or gclid), used to measure which ads bring visitors to the site.
• Meta Pixel data. This site uses the Meta Pixel, which reports page views and site events to Meta so we can measure our advertising. Meta may associate this with your Facebook or Instagram account under its own policies.

How we use it

• To compute your landed cost estimate and generate your breakdown and report.
• If you create an account: to save your calculations, send your PDF report, and email rate-change alerts for the routes you costed.
• To measure and improve our advertising, including attribution through click IDs and the Meta Pixel.

What we never do

• We never sell your data.
• We never share your data with third parties for their own marketing.
• We never rent, trade, or broker your email address, your shipment figures, or anything else you give us.

Your shipment values and product details are business-sensitive. We treat them that way.

Data retention & deletion

We keep your calculation inputs and account email for as long as they're useful to provide you the service — typically while your saved calculations and rate alerts are active. You can ask to view or delete your data at any time by emailing [email protected]. We honor deletion requests within 30 days, and usually much faster.

Security

Your data is stored on our own server, not passed around a chain of third-party processors. Access is restricted to the small team that runs this site, on a need-to-know basis. No security measure is perfect, and we won't pretend otherwise — but your data lives in one place, with few hands on it.

Cookies

The only tracker on this site is the Meta Pixel described above. We don't use analytics suites, session-recording tools, or advertising cookies beyond it. To opt out of Meta Pixel tracking, you can use a browser extension that blocks trackers, enable your browser's "Do Not Track" or Global Privacy Control setting, or adjust your ad preferences in your Facebook/Instagram settings. Blocking the pixel does not affect the calculator — it works the same either way.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If a change is significant — for example, a new category of data collected — we'll say so clearly on this page rather than burying it.
